Stuck in MI for another day due to lightning storms. Yay midwest. Boo United Airlines for being asshats on the phone (more on that later). In the meantime, me and my 5 channels here in Berrien Springs checked out Age of Love, where it's 'a battle of 40 something vs. 20 somethings' for the heart of an objective (?) young buck.
The young buck in question is Australian tennis stud Mark Philloupouspousis (SP?) who dated pre-staph infection Paris Hilton and was once engaged to an 18 year old supermodel. Good luck, cougars.
FWIW: I think someone in their Dirty 30's would win against the menagerie of coordinator level hula hoopers and 805 adjacent divorcees that NBC assembled for this dramedy.
ESPN of all things has a good writeup on this here: http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=alipour/070615&lpos=spotlight&lid=tab6pos1

Weekend Recap -- Superbowl. Prince. Party at the Animal House.
"just when it seemed time to give up on that quaint ritual known as the halftime show, along comes Prince." -- The New York Times
For those of you too cool to watch the Superbowl, you missed one of the greatest 20 minutes in the history of TV. Rain pouring down. . . . Fireworks exploding. . . . 60,000 people with lighters in the air. . . .
and Prince in the middle of a giant neon symbol the size of half the football field. The man busted seamlessly between All Along the Watchtower, Foo Fighters, and Purple Rain. . . like, in the rain.
That lightning, I think it was real. . . .
I know Kym and Geraldine were there, and I'm jealous.
Meanwhile, at my apartment complex, I attended a 36 hour party thrown by my neighbors that involved UFC, beer pong, sparring at the local dojo, a broken foosball table, and of course the Super Bowl itself. Fantastic.
Give Prince a 5 year contract to do Superbowl halftime. Oh, and let K-Fed do another insurance commercial. That was cool too.
PS: I'm not seeing this on YouTube due to copyright restrictions. If you missed this, pray that your best friend still has the halftime show on this Tivo.
PPS: (for when we look back at this 10 years from now): The Colts won. It was Peyton Manning's first championship.

Muhammad Ali and Pot Roast Sandwiches
I'm eating a Pot Roast Sandwich from Bay Cities Deli and watching the Patterson/Ali fight from 1965.
I've watched a lot of Ali this week. They've been showing a lot of his stuff on ESPN classic because it's his birthday. I usually write off anyone who uses the word 'athlete' and 'important' in the same sentence, but I absolutely have an Ali Exception.
The man single handedly invented trash talk, hip hop, rope a dope, non-dirty-hippie-conscientious-objecting, and a bunch of other stuff that I enjoy watching. Without him, there might be no mixed martial arts, no Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson, and no professional wrasslin as we know it today. Oh, and he had no problem going to prison in the prime of his career for what he believed in.
Happy belated birthday to Berrien Springs' most famous resident.

Bowl Recap -- Sad for the Alma Mater, happy for Boise State
If you missed the Boise State upset of Oklahoma . . . . go home and get onto Sportscenter like right now.
I JUST saw one of the greatest 3 hour cinderalla sports movies ever. . . only it was a live NCAA football game. Like Bad News Bears, Mighty Ducks, and Hoosiers. . . all mixed together. . . .
- Little school vs. Big school
- Drama, mistakes, lead changes, and crazy overtime
- Multiple crazier-than-Blitz-style trick plays to tie the game and then win it in overtime
- "Gunslingin' quarterback" and a cast of undersized 'misfits' (with occasional misfit hairstyles even)
- Head Coach who looks like a prettyboy Billy Bob Thornton
- Oh, and even romance -- The running back who scored two TDs, including the game winner, proposed to his girlfriend -- the Boise State head cheerleader -- on national TV after the game.
For me it was a small consolation for Michigan losing to USC again. . . but still pretty sweet . . .
Wishing you the best in 2007. May your year be filled with as much razzle dazzle as the Boise State Broncos' playbook.
PS: Thanks to Stein and Meyotch for whupload of fun over NYE. More to come on that . . . probably.
